Photographic History - Acknowledgements

Dear Reader,

Apart from Dr. Judith Hunter's book The Story of a Village. Eton Wick 1217-1977, there has been no other general work on the community until this, the year of the Millennium. Every effort has been taken to ensure that the facts, dates and identifications in this book are as accurate as possible. Nevertheless, we acknowledge that the discerning reader may be able to offer corrections or additional information. We would welcome your help in updating our records.

We hope you enjoy this book, and that its contents will provide an interesting insight into our community.

The Authors

Windsor Castle from Victoria Road, Eton Wick.

This photograph was taken in 1947. It looks eastwards to the Castle over Meux's Field (then the Shepherds Hut public house paddock), allotments at the rear of the Village Hall, the recreation ground, and then South Field to the Great Western Railway viaduct. The houses of Princes Close now cover most of Meux's Field and the Windsor and Eton Relief Road obscures the railway viaduct.
